FAQ’s

Why is aftercare important for permanent makeup?

Aftercare ensures your skin heals properly, retains pigment evenly, and prevents infection. Following the recommended steps helps achieve the best long-term results.

What should I do immediately after the procedure?

Gently blot the area with a clean tissue if lymph fluid appears.
Keep the area clean and dry — no touching with unwashed hands.
Apply the aftercare ointment provided, as directed by your technician.

Can I wash my face?

Yes, but:

  • Avoid direct water on the treated area for at least 7–10 days.

  • Use a damp cotton pad to clean around the area.

  • Avoid cleansers with acids or exfoliants near the site.

What should I avoid during healing?

No picking, scratching, or rubbing the scabs — this can pull out pigment.
No makeup on the treated area until fully healed.
No saunas, swimming, hot tubs, or heavy sweating for 10–14 days.
No sun exposure or tanning — UV rays can fade pigment.

How long does healing take?

  • Initial surface healing: about 7–14 days.

  • Full pigment settling: 4–6 weeks (when you’ll see the true colour).

Is peeling or scabbing normal?

Yes! Light flaking or scabbing is expected. Do not interfere — allow it to shed naturally.

My brows appear lighter, is this normal?

YES! Do not panic. This is part of the process as the pigment settles into the skin.

  • Days 8–10: Pigment may appear lighter and patchy as brows continue to heal.
  • By 4–6 weeks: Colour settles, and brows take on a softer, more natural look. Full healing and final results are visible.

When can I resume normal activities?

Once the area is fully healed (about 2 weeks), you can return to activities like swimming or using makeup over the area.

Will I need a touch-up?

YES — a perfecting session is recommended 4–8 weeks after the initial procedure to adjust shape or colour.

How can I make my permanent makeup last longer?

  1. Protect the area from sun exposure — use SPF once healed.
  2. Avoid chemical peels or laser treatments directly over the area.
  3. Follow all aftercare instructions carefully.

Aftercare:

  • Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour.
  • No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week minimum.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure.Ā  Wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days,
  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area.
  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

Healing stages:

  • Days 1–4: Brows will appear darker, sharper, and may be red or swollen. This is normal and temporary.
  • Days 5–7: Scabbing and flaking may begin. Brows can feel itchy; do not pick at them.
  • Days 8–10: Pigment may appear lighter and patchy as brows continue to heal.
  • By 4–6 weeks: Colour settles, and brows take on a softer, more natural look. Full healing and final results are visible.

Please review back over this sheet any time any of the above starts to happen. If you are REALLY concerned if anything out of the ordinary is happening that isn’t on this sheet then you can get in touch. Ride the wave and be patient. This is a process.

How long does Brows/Lips/Eyeliner last?

Each person is different and how your body and metabolism as well as how healthy your body is will determine the length of time for the permanent makeup.Ā

Several things influence pigment retention and fading:

  • Skin type — Oily skin tends to fade faster, especially with brow treatments.

  • Sun exposure — UV rays break down pigment over time.

  • Skincare products — Exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA, retinol) or treatments like chemical peels and lasers can cause premature fading.

  • Immune system — Some bodies break down pigment faster than others.

  • Lifestyle — Frequent swimming, saunas, heavy sweating can speed up fading.

When will I know if I need a top-up?

You might notice:

  • The colour looks lighter or uneven.

  • The shape is still intact but needs freshening.

A touch-up can restore vibrancy and definition. It’s easier to maintain than start over!

Does the colour change over time?

Yes — pigments soften and may fade towards cooler or warmer tones depending on the pigment formulation, your skin, and external factors. That’s why maintenance is important.
